Hayley Goldbaum // Website // Blog
This week’s guest blogger is an LA native who moved to San Francisco three years ago to study Fashion Merchandising at Academy of Art University. She will graduate with her B.F.A. in Fall of 2015. Not only is she a go-getter at school, she also landed an internship this summer with leading San Francisco based magazine, 7×7. I talked to Hayley about her blog, internship, and plans post grad.
Congrats on your internship this summer! What is your official title at 7×7 Magazine?
Hayley: I work under the photo director as a Fashion Assistant/Photo Intern.
What about 7×7 Magazine interests you?
I like it because people trust our publication to have the most authority on San Francisco’s food, style, art, and culture. 7×7 brings the community together.
Take me through a normal day at the 7×7 office.
I get to the office at 10Am and usually leave around 6PM. We start the day by having a brief meeting and touching base on what we have all been working on. Then I will spend time looking up photos for the photo director, getting in touch with photographers, answering emails and assisting with the photo shoot prep work.
Where do your interests lie in the fashion industry? Styling?
Yes, I am very interested in fashion styling. This internship has taught me so much about editorial styling and photo shoot production. I had the opportunity to work with 7×7’s Fashion Editor, Lauren Goodman, on a photo shoot–I learned a lot from her.
How would you describe your personal style?
I would say Classic LA with an edge.
What has been your biggest struggle to maintain your website?
Even though I’ve been so busy with my internship and job at Stitch Fix, it is still important to have my website up and running so my most recent work is able to be viewed. Blogging is something that gets easier the more you post–you just have to make the time to do so.
What piece of advice would you give to people wanting to work/intern in fashion styling?
Because styling is so hands on, you have to be able to put in the hard work to deliver results.
